Betfred Championship Round Up | Round 18

Betfred Championship Round Up | Round 18

On Friday Night, Oldham kept their remarkable winning streak going after seeing off an in-form Widnes Vikings side.

The Roughyeds secured a 12th straight league win, their best run of results since 1990, and moved further clear of Widnes in the Betfred Championship table.

Saturday’s action saw Goole Vikings produce another incredible display of resilience as they came from 10 points behind to beat Rochdale Hornets.

Backed by another vocal Victoria Pleasure Grounds crowd, Scott Taylor's side dug deep to produce one of their most determined performances of the season.

Liam Watts was the man of the hour, using all his strength to stretch out and ground the ball for the match-winning moment, sending the home crowd into raptures.

It was eight wins on the spin for Newcastle, who posted 50 points on Whitehaven at the weekend and maintained second spot.

Haven’s rivals Workington then enjoyed a huge home win in Round 18, as they dominated Hunslet.

Meanwhile, Sheffield continue to enjoy life at their new home venue, The MEPS International Home of Football Stadium, as an entertaining points fest unfolded against Dewsbury.

The Eagles made it back-to-back victories on Sunday, as Craig Lingard’s side ran in seven tries, recovering from an early deficit before pulling away in the second half to round off June with another important two points.

A late penalty goal from Brad Walker saw Barrow Raiders edge past Salford 22-20 in a dramatic encounter at the CorpAcq Stadium.

As the Raiders recorded a sixth straight win, they were tested to the extreme by the hosts, during a game which saw Salford lead throughout until the final minutes.

Jordan Gibson was a hat-trick hero in Swinton’s win away at Cougar Park to Keighley, whilst Doncaster completed a league double over Halifax.

Finally, league leaders London Broncos carried on their dominance with eleven tries against Batley.
